Doom Eternal Confirmed for Nintendo Switch

Nichole VegaAug 11, 2018

That particular announcement came with a fancy trailer which did a nice job of wetting folks' appetite even if it didn't have any gameplay. Today Bethesda pulled the curtains back and gave us tons of new gameplay details and footage.

There's a lot to unpack from today's footage. It ended with the Doomslayer protagonist getting ready to swing a sword. It comes with an arm blade used to impale and slice demons.

They didn't go into too much detail though, mostly allowing the game to speak for itself, but they did introduce the new armour and weapons, including a shoulder-mounted flamethrower and a shotgun with a grappling hook in it. Speaking of hell, it appears that the evil realm has crossed over into the human dimension. At the very least, though, we feel that this has to be some kind of expansion or some piece of previously unseen content related to Doom. A revamped damage system will also show the marks you leave on demons with your weapons, so you'll be able to blast off body parts. Speaking personally, I'm stoked.

After 2016's incredible Doom reboot, we've been left wondering what the franchise's next big move is.

No new Doom game would be complete without fresh ways to utterly annihilate demon spawn. Don't worry though - if you have enough trouble with Doom's AI demons, you can turn off invasions.

DOOM Eternal's armor modifications and improvements were shown off on stage.

The studio also confirmed that the game will run at 60fps, though didn't specify if that also includes the Nintendo Switch version of the game. If it's anything like the port of Doom 2016, it should be a serviceable, if downgraded, experience on Switch. Experience the ultimate combination of speed and power as you rip-and-tear your way across dimensions with the next leap in push-forward, first-person combat.

Announced during QuakeCon, we now know that the upcoming DOOM Eternal is officially coming to Switch!
