Google Acknowledges Epic’s ‘Fortnite’ Isn’t On The Play Store

By now, everyone who's been paying attention to news about Fortnite on Android knows that it'll only be available via Epic's site after the Samsung exclusivity period ends, and not on the Play Store.

Epic confirmed to GameSpot that Android users will not be able to download Fortnite on their devices from Google's digital store, but rather through its own service. As spotted by a Reddit user, searching for Fortnite or Fortnite Battle Royale will yield a warning saying the game isn't available on the Play Store.

Even more concerning than the malware threat with just Fortnite for Android, however, is what this could mean for other app developers going forward. Following Fortnite's success on Android other game developers will also follow suit. Subsequently, once this wave starts to subside, the company will then bring Fortnite on Play Store.

Yes, Google misspelled the name of the game - it's "Royale", not "Royal". Whether this is a mere typo or Google doesn't know how to spell the name of the game is unclear, but it's a somewhat amusing mishap nonetheless. The game will appear in the Samsung Game Launcher and in the Galaxy Apps store. On top of that, only owners of certain Samsung smartphones were able to play the game at launch. Epic will also offer downloads of the game on its website in the coming days for most Android smartphones. Thankfully, the Play Store is finally doing something about it.

There are now two places that you can go to either download Fortnite, or at least sign up to be included in the Beta launch.
