New England Patriots expected to adjust contract for Tom Brady

Grant SmithAug 11, 2018

Early Friday, the initial thought was Guice had suffered a sprain.

Washington Redskins running back Derrius Guice's season is over before it began.

Guice hyperextended his left knee at LSU last season but was held out of only one game.

Guice carried the ball six times for 19 yards on 10 snaps and limped off the field on his final touch.

Contrast that with Rob Gronkowski's restructured deal from past year, which allowed the tight end to earn an extra $5.5 million by reaching certain totals in one of three statistical categories or by securing first-team All-Pro honors. Guice had appeared to be the front runner to start after an excellent performance in training camp.

UPDATE: The Redskins confirmed Guice tore his ACL. Who steps up? It could be Samaje Perine, who had a disappointing rookie season in 2017 but had excellent college production at Oklahoma. Both players are expected to make a full recovery and are looking forward to playing in 2019. The Redskins were the most injured team last season when accounting for the impact of the players lost, according to Football Outsiders.

Washington has also had a recent history of their high-profile draft picks not being able to stay healthy.

Brady has two years remaining on his contract. Tight end Manasseh Garner suffered a torn ACL, while wide receiver Trey Quinn (stomach) and defensive end Matt Ioannidis (leg) were also hurt.
