Chelsea crush Huddersfield to give Sarri ideal start

Maurizio Sarri began his Chelsea tenure with a 2-0 win (no, the Charity Shield doesn't count) against Huddersfield on Saturday, but the Blues weren't entirely convincing, particularly in a first half when the Terriers pegged them back for long stretches. He will have World Cup-winning team-mate Olivier Giroud breathing down his neck if he does not step things up quickly.

Pedro sealed a comfortable win with a cool, chipped finish for Chelsea's third after being played in by substitute Eden Hazard.

Jorginho then whispered something to Hazard that caused the Belgian to burst out laughing.

Part of that was down to the quality of Huddersfield's press, a positive sign for David Wagner's side after the more passive approach of last season, but Sarri's side didn't take care of the ball as well as their manager would've liked.

A strike from World Cup victor N'Golo Kante, Jorginho's penalty on debut and a late goal for Pedro were enough to hand Maurizio Sarri a first win in the Premier League.

Maurizio Sarri's spell at Chelsea has got off to an impressive start.

There were howls of protest from the stands, but Huddersfield's players were broadly quiet, and rightly so.

Mounie took exception to Jorginho's cheeky penalty, adding: "It was weird". "The first half was hard - maybe if you look at the result you can think about an easy game, but in the first half we were in trouble for 15 minutes against a very physical team".

After Antonio Rudiger won an aerial battle inside his own half, Jorginho's neat touch played in Pedro who pushed forward before passing to Willian.

Kante is already recognised as one of the better midfielders in Europe for his ability to appear in many places at one time defensively. "I have seen passion, desire, the spirit we usually have in our game".

As we know, Kante is not known for scoring goals but he's kept up his record of scoring at least one goal in a Premier League season by getting off to a flyer this afternoon. The return of the industrious Kante no doubt helped him focus on the areas he excels in.
