Coconut oil is ‘pure poison,’ according to Harvard professor

Lynette PayneAug 22, 2018

In fact, she said, "Coconut oil is pure poison", according to a translation by Business Insider. Notice that coconut oil is not included in the list of fats that are the smartest, healthiest options.

Is it healthy?"While coconut oil isn't a superfood, it isn't inherently problematic either", she told Global News.

The American Heart Association report noted that replacing saturated fats, including coconut oil, butter, beef fat or palm oil with healthier, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats like olive oil, peanut oil, canola oil, corn oil, and sunflower oil lowers cardiovascular disease risk by about 30 percent - as much as cholesterol-lowering statin drugs. "It is one of the worst foods you can eat".

Health expert has claimed "superfood" coconut oil is actually not healthy at all.

But don't throw out that coconut oil just yet, because if you've been using the oil for its cosmetic benefits then it can't be taxing on your heart.

"But the reality is when you look at what coconut oil is made of, 80 percent of it is saturated fat and that's similar to butter which is about 60 percent saturated fat or beef fat which is about 40 percent", CBS News medical contributor Dr. Tara Narula told "CBS This Morning" previous year.

According to Michels, coconut oil is more unsafe than lard because it nearly exclusively contains saturated fatty acids, the kind that can clog the coronary arteries.

Dr Michels also said consumption of so-called superfoods was unnecessary because we already get enough nutrition from everyday foods like carrots, cherries, and apricots. "People think of the benefits of coconut oil, thinking it has fewer calories, helps you lose weight, some people like the flavor of it, but we still have to consider it as a saturated fat", she said. "Unfortunately, the fats in coconut oil are not pure MCTs (it's about 50 to 65 per cent), and the predominant MCT in coconut oil (lauric acid) is probably considered the least effective MCT because it's the longest chain".

Contrary to popular belief that it is one of the most healthy oils out there, Karin has urged that this certainly isn't the case and rather recommends people to avoid it. For people who do not have high cholesterol, that number should be under 10 percent. "The overall effect has misled the public on the science of dietary fats". The oil is rich in lauric acid, a fatty acid that the body processes slightly differently than it does other saturated fats. The stuff just feels so good, you know?
