Gary Cohn Waffles on Bob Woodward Book

Irene MckinneySep 12, 2018

Woodward's reporting has been challenged by Cohn, who told Axios: "This book does not accurately portray my experience at the White House".

When faced with such advice, Woodward said, "President Trump will say, 'Well, I've had those ideas for 30 years, and if you disagree with me, you're wrong'".

Trump also insisted that the White House is a "smooth running machine".

President Donald Trump, an opponent of the involvement of United States troops in Afghanistan, was apparently influenced by a remark from Prime Minister Narendra Modi while aides debated the administration's policy for the war-ravaged country in the summer of 2017. "We're told the book is based on hundreds of hours of interviews, most of which were taped with the consent of the source".

The author writes that Porter and White House economic adviser Gary Cohn helped stave off some of Trump's attempts to end free-trade agreements, even to the point of stealing paper off the Resolute Desk so the president didn't see them. In Bob Woodward's book, it is also mentioned that Modi had informed Trump that Afghanistan is a mineral rich country but U.S. got nothing from it unlike China.

"The Woodward book is a scam".

The full book was scheduled for public release Tuesday and was already ranked at the top of Amazon's best-selling books as of late Monday.

"Let's talk about your process a little bit because we live in an era where the president talks about fake news. We don't take it like others - like China", Trump is quoted as saying during the July 19 situation room meeting.

We do not want to go back to that place and time, where zealous politicians could enlist the use of government agents for their own political aims.

"Forget about Reince", Trump reportedly said.

"The things-some of the things-that Trump did and does jeopardizes the real national security", Woodward said.

For example, Porter's statement about the book calls it "selective" and "often misleading". The main point is that certain White House officials had been trying to protect US interests despite President Trump - including by hiding documents to prevent him from signing them.

Speaking on Good Morning America, Don Jr. said: 'I think there are people in there that he can trust, it's just - it's a much smaller group than I would like it to be. He's gone off the rails. The book's findings were amplified when The New York Times published an anonymous op-ed from a senior administration official, claiming the president's staff seeks to thwart his "more misguided impulses". "This is the worst job I've ever had".

The book also quotes Mattis, after a contentious National Security Council meeting on January 19, as saying Trump acted like and had the understanding of "a fifth or sixth-grader". "He and I both know this story is total BS". Trump tweeted Monday prior to the Woodward interview.
