Bezos promises Amazon HQ2 decision will be announced by year's end

Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos says he is giving $2 billion USA to start a fund that will open preschools in low-income neighbourhoods and give money to non-profits that helps homeless families.

With a little more than three months left in the year, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos says he still intends to announce a decision on where its second headquarters will be located before the new year.

Amazon Chief Executive Jeff Bezos said that President Trump is wrong for attacking the media. "Most important of those will be genuine, intense customer obsession".

Bezos, and Amazon, have been criticized in Seattle for not doing more to help the needy and have become focal points in the booming region's angry debate about traffic, housing prices and homelessness. "The child will be the customer".

The "Day 1 Academies Fund" will start an organization to operate a new network of full-scholarship pre-schools for low-income communities. Naturally, it was easy for Sawant and others to target Amazon, but 500 businesses would have been subject to the tax, which is about 3 percent of the city's companies.

His net worth has risen by US$64.7 billion this year alone as Amazon's shares surged.

The fight soured many more locals on Amazon and Bezos, and also overshadowed the growing portfolio of philanthropy they had done in the city.

In a tweet last June, Bezos asked the public for ideas about where he should give his money. With #PJammin, scores of Amazon employees joined their boss to support the cause and drive attention to raise awareness. Public donations by the 54-year-old Bezos have been rare, and - with exceptions like a $35 million family donation to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center - typically on a scale far smaller than the two men just behind him in the wealth rankings, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and Berkshire Hathaway's Warren Buffett.

"We will build an organisation to directly operate these schools".

The Washington Posts top editor has said that Mr. Bezos has no involvement in its news coverage. While his and Amazon investors' wealth increases-and the company's market capitalization approaches $1 trillion-what makes the business so efficient is that relies on automation and low-priced labor.
