Gubernatorial race takes top billing on Democratic primary day

Cuomo has a 41-point lead in the latest poll and a wide lead in fundraising, but, on closer inspection, Nixon could do better Thursday's vote than expected.

"You can not be a progressive if you can not deliver progress".

'New Yorkers & all NYCHA residents its time to get JUSTICE, ' Minaj tweeted.

"He is an experienced man and she is totally inexperienced", said Cuomo voter Jack Buchanan, 87, on the Upper East Side.

She's a high-profile example of an insurgent left-wing trying to oust establishment incumbents.

Earlier this campaign season, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ayanna Pressley both upset long-serving Democratic incumbent congressmen in nominating races in NY and MA, promising more vigorous liberal policies and highlighting their opposition to Republican President Donald Trump.

Though a win by Cuomo, now vying for a third term leading the Empire State after being first elected in 2010, was widely expected, Nixon's combination of celebrity and progressive values forced the governor to wage a more earnest campaign that may have been expected by an incumbent in such a solidly Democratic state. The question remains whether that wave will be enough to carry Nixon to victory.

He's spent millions on ads and tried to make the race about President Trump, arguing that he was the best qualified to govern and push back against the White House. And he increasingly made the race about pushing back against the policies of Trump and other Republicans in Washington.

"The fact that he seems to be in hiding the day before the election - yeah, I think he's running scared", Nixon said in the Bronx. "I didn't say a negative word about my opponent", he said, repeating his claim that he was in the dark about the mailer.

Girls star Lena Dunham, also a NY resident, tweeted about why she chose to support Nixon at the ballot box.

"Based on my experience as state chair, there is no way that a mailer was designed and then sent out and paid for without the explicit consent of Andrew Cuomo or one of his top lieutenants", Miner said.

The planned opening of the Governor Mario M. Cuomo bridge to replace the old Tappan Zee Bridge between Westchester and Rockland counties was supposed to bolster Cuomo's image as a can-do governor, but a last-minute delay changed that narrative.

The mailer said Nixon opposes funding for Jewish schools, supports "racist, xenophobic" calls to boycott Israel over its treatment of Palestinians, and that she has been "silent on the rise of anti-Semitism".

Ms. Nixon gained fame in her role as Miranda Hobbes in HBO's "Sex and the City" and on Broadway has won two Tony Awards, including one past year.

The Times, which endorsed Cuomo, called the mailer "a disgrace", and Randi Weingarten, a Cuomo supporter whose wife is the rabbi at a synagogue that Nixon attends, said the notion that Nixon is anti-Semitic is a "baseless lie", New York Magazine reported.
