Brewers clinch 1st playoff spot since 2011, sweep Cards

The National League Central couldn't be decided in 162 games so the Cubs and Brewers will meet for a one-game tiebreaker Monday at Wrigley Field. The National League, originally founded in 1876, consists of the following teams: Arizona Diamondbacks; Atlanta Braves; Chicago Cubs; Cincinnati Reds; Colorado Rockies; Los Angeles Dodgers; Miami Marlins; Milwaukee Brewers; New York Mets; Philadelphia Phillies; Pittsburgh Pirates; San Diego Padres; San Francisco Giants; St. Louis Cardinals; and Washington Nationals. For the first time in Major League Baseball history, there will be two one-game tiebreaks in the same season. That's because the NL Central race is basically a copy of the NL West (the Cubs AND Brewers are playing a tiebreaker game too after going both 95-67). They are a relative rarity - there have only been four tiebreakers since 2000, and only one since 2013. The most recent team, the 2013 Rays, won the wild-card game, but lost in the division series.

The Brewers likewise got out to an early lead, getting two in the first inning before rolling to an 11-0 win over the Tigers.

The victor of the NL West tiebreaker will play the Braves in the NLDS and host Game 1 on Thursday. The Cubs beat the Cardinals, 10-5, in their season finale Sunday behind big hits from Willson Contreras, Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo and Ben Zobrist, which could've clinched the division for Chicago had Milwaukee faltered Sunday.

Jose Quintana (13-11, 4.09 ERA) is expected to start for Chicago, while Milwaukee's starter hasn't been announced.
