Ind. Senator Donnelly On Kavanaugh

Howard TerryOct 02, 2018

Don Stewart, a spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, said that a floor vote on Kavanaugh would not take place on Monday even if the FBI investigation concludes Monday morning because the Senate's rules for invoking cloture require several days' delay.

Rachel Mitchell was appointed by Senate Republicans to question Ford during her testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee in order to avoid the optics of 11 men questioning a woman about an alleged sexual assault.

President Trump addresses reporters in the Rose Garden of the White House on Monday. The investigators will compile information about Kavanaugh's past and provide their findings to the White House and include the information in Kavanaugh's background file, which is available to senators.

In remarks he made Saturday before heading to a MAGA rally in West Virginia, Trump said the investigation was expected to be concluded within a week's time. and conclude in less than a week.

State Rep. Geoff Diehl, a Whitman Republican who is running against Warren, told the Herald he continues to believe Kavanaugh should be confirmed, but said he's always happy to see elected officials explaining their decisions to the public.

The investigation came after Christine Blasey Ford testified to a Senate committee on Thursday that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her at a small house party in the summer of 1982, when they were in high school.

"That experience, as well as a lot of others", Flake said at the conference when asked if the confrontation motivated his decision.

It was also not clear whether the FBI would investigate a series of allegations made by a third woman, Julie Swetnick, who has said that she witnessed a severely drunken Kavanaugh mistreat women at parties in high school and that he was present at parties where high school boys gang-raped teenage girls.

Trump also said he is "open" to the FBI interviewing other witnesses the bureau discovers who might corroborate the accusations against Kavanaugh. He has vehemently denied all allegations. Bob Odenkirk is one of the few that has the looks that would be needed for this role, and he also has the gravitas that would be required to play the part of Kavanaugh.

But questions about the investigation's expansiveness mounted as additional witnesses came forward with accounts they wanted to present to the FBI about Kavanaugh's behavior.

Indiana Democratic U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly is siding with the rest of his party in vowing to vote against the confirmation of U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

At least three women have accused Kavanaugh, a federal appellate court judge of misconduct.

Jeff Flake (Ariz.), said Monday that he is planning to have conversations with the White House to ensure the FBI investigation is "up to standard".

"It does no good to have an investigation that just gives us more cover, for example". Charles "Chad" Ludington, who now teaches at North Carolina State University, said he was a friend of Kavanaugh's at Yale and said Kavanaugh was "a frequent drinker, and a heavy drinker".

The FBI isn't pursuing a criminal investigation into Kavanaugh.

Democrats expressed concern about any curtailment of the probe, which comes after the Judiciary Committee approved Mr Kavanaugh's nomination along party lines on Friday before the matter goes to the full Senate for a final vote.

Monday marked Flake's second New Hampshire visit this year.

While discussing the case on CNN, she said "I feel very empathetic, frankly, towards victims of sexual assault and sexual harassment and rape".
