Hoffenheim v Manchester City

Manchester City struck late in the second half to secure a 2-1 win over Hoffenheim in their UEFA Champions League Group F encounter on Tuesday evening.

An electric start to the game saw Ishak Belfodil open the scoring after just 44 seconds with a fine finish under Ederson.

Sergio Aguero is a doubt for City's trip to Hoffenheim after limping out of the weekend win over Brighton with a foot injury.

On Hoffenheim's game against Man City, he added: "The first ever meeting between the clubs and City need to get a result after their shock home reverse to Lyon on Matchday 1".

Hoffenheim started the second half just as they had the first - at full throttle.

At that point City looked well placed to score more, but a resilient Hoffenheim performance coupled with one strong penalty appeal for Leroy Sane turned down, meant it looked like the game was heading for a draw.

Yet after the break, 31-year-old Julian Nagelsmann's side, reflecting the enterprise of the youngest manager in Champions League history, held on staunchly as City ramped up their attacks.

"After losing the first game, it was important that we didn't lose today", he told BT Sport. "We have to live it like a club, for the players and myself it will be good", he said.

Silva poached the victor on 87 minutes when he reacted quickest to nick the ball off Hoffenheim defender Stefan Posch on the penalty spot and fire home.

"It's too early to be defining but it certainly has the feeling that a lot more is at play than the three points".

Riyad Mahrez replaced Sterling as the game entered its final quarter of an hour, and a Sane pull-back evaded Aguero as the visitors generated some late pressure. "We played with a little bit of fear".

I fully expect to see a focused Manchester City squad come into this match desperate for 3 points.

"We created some good moments going forward and doing that against a side like Man City is something we can build on".
