Lawyer: FBI has completed Mark Judge interview

Irene MckinneyOct 03, 2018

The FBI has finished interviewing Mark Judge, a friend of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, who was said to have attended a high school party in the early 1980s where a woman says she was sexually assaulted by Kavanaugh, Judge's lawyer said Tuesday.

"What we want to see is, is there evidence or corroboration that the FBI is able to find through the supplemental investigation that would corroborate Dr. Ford's accusations and if not, I will continue to support Judge Kavanaugh based on the information that I have at this time", Ernst said. He suggested it was troubling that people were found "automatically guilty" and had to prove their innocence.

The FBI is conducting a Senate-requested probe into the sexual misconduct allegations against Kavanaugh, whom Trump described as "a great judge" who "has been very brutally treated".

But Trump spent much of the rally lamenting the treatment of Kavanaugh by Democrats, whose attacks he said had taken their toll on the judge's family.

Quoting an unnamed senior U.S. official, NBC reported that the FBI's witness list does not include Julie Swetnick, the third accuser to come forward with a claim against Mr Kavanaugh.

Kavanaugh and Ford appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee last week, where they answered questions about the allegations.

Trump and Senate Republicans have instructed the FBI to investigate it and any other "credible allegations" against him, but the president also said "speed" was important in the process.

"But here's what we know. one thing for sure". We're told that a man who reacts with understandable indignation when he is falsely accused can not be a dispassionate arbiter of disputes involving third parties.

"Judge Kavanaugh's lack of respect for our democratic institutions and women in positions of power in particular revealed that he does not have a judicial temperament and is unable to adhere to judicial professionalism", says the letter, from the women in legal education section of the Association of American Law Schools (AALS).

On Monday, Van Gelder said her client had been questioned by the Federal Bureau of Investigation but the interview was "not completed". Trump has likewise denied the allegations made against him.

Ford's lawyers said on Tuesday she had offered her full cooperation with the FBI in its investigation but had received no reply.

The FBI is investigating Blasey's allegation that a drunken, teenaged Kavanaugh pushed her into a room, pinned her on a bed, groped her and covered her mouth when she tried to scream during a gathering of high school friends. "Whatever that means according to the senators and the Republicans and the Republican majority, I want them to do that".

"We have differing views about the other qualifications of Judge Kavanaugh", the professors state in the letter. One of them is Republican Jeff Flake of Arizona, who was greeted by hundreds of liberal protesters, victims of sexual assault among them, during an appearance Monday in Boston.

Although Ludington acknowledged in his statement to the Washington Post that although he does "not believe heavy drinking or even loutish behavior of an 18 or even 21-year-old should condemn a person for the rest of his life", his belief that Kavanaugh had fudged the details of his college experience in front of a Senate committee seemed to be the true sticking point.

Mr McConnell said: "The time for endless delay and obstruction has come to a close".

Dianne Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, has said Friday would be too soon.

During the 1990s, Kavanaugh aggressively pursued investigations into then-president Bill Clinton while working for independent counsel Kenneth Starr.

Senator Mazie Hirono, a Democrat from Hawaii, asked: "We're going to put a conspiracy theory believer on the court?"
