LG launches V40 ThinQ smartphone with five-camera setup

Nichole VegaOct 05, 2018

It features a 6.4-inch Quad HD+ OLED display with a resolution of 3120×1440, and a notch that increases the aspect ratio to 19.5:9. Not just because it's launching with Android 9.0 Pie on board, but mostly because it'll get guaranteed fast Android updates for at least two years going forward. The device comes with the rear-facing fingerprint sensor and includes face unlock feature. Because it has two sensors, LG can do portrait mode, with background blur, with the front camera as well.

When it comes to the image sensor, this is more than 18 percent larger than in the LG V30.

Powering the entire smartphone is the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, clubbed with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. LG is convinced the answer to that is yes, and so the LG V40 ThinQ arrives with a quintet of sensors ranging from 8- to 16-megapixels and from a 45-degree field of view through to a whopping 107-degrees.

The design of the V40 ThinQ is something that LG is proud of, with the company touting its "Silky Blast" process. The dual front camera has an 8-megapixel primary camera with f/1.9 aperture and a secondary 5-megapixel wide-angle camera with f/2.2 aperture. There are no words on when we will be able to see the V40 ThinQ in Malaysia but based on our past experiences with LG Mobile, don't expect it to be out in our market anytime soon.

The remaining two cameras on the device allow you to take an all-encompassing photo.

It is the first smartphone in the world that lets users take an ultra-wide-angle shot or zoom in extensively, akin to a professional DSLR owing to three cameras on its back. Along with this, there is a 12 MP telephoto camera and offers 2x the zoom capability over a regular lens.

The South Korean tech firm explained: "The Triple Shot feature stitches together the images captured with each of the three lenses into a short video file for easy sharing". But if you're willing to pay $900 to nearly $1,000 for the V40, then you're shopping for a flagship device. In connectivity, there's a 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and FM radio. The body of the LG V40 ThinQ is also IP68 water resistance and meets the U.S. Department of Defense requirements for durability, passing 14 MIL-STD 810G Transit Drop Test categories. It is backed by a 3,3900mAH battery and it comes with Qualcomm' Quick Charge 4.0 technology. The handset will arrive in glossy Aurora Black and matte Moroccan Blue color options. The smartphone is up for pre-order in U.S. and will be available with different carriers at a starting price of is priced at $920 (which translates into Rs 67,980).
