Suge Knight pleads no contest to manslaughter over fatal confrontation

Irene MckinneyOct 05, 2018

He was accused in January 2015 of having run over two men, resulting in the death of Terry Carter, and faced one count of murder as well as one count of attempted murder in the case of Cle "Bone" Sloan, who was the second man hit by Knight's truck.

Knight is facing a 28-year state prison term when he is sentenced in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom October 4 by Superior Court Judge Ronald S. Coen. A judge ruled on Thursday, April 16, 2015, that Knight will stand trial on murder and attempted-murder charges. Jury selection in the murder trial had been set to start on Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Video of the incident shows Suge's red truck pulling into Tam's Burgers in Compton - where Dr. Dre was filming footage connected with the NWA biopic, "Straight Outta Compton" - and he's nearly immediately confronted by Cle "Bone" Sloan ... who did security for the film.

By entering his plea, Knight resolves two other pending criminal cases: Knight was indicted for making criminal threats in August 2014 and he was charged for allegedly stealing a camera from a woman in September 2014.

There was video of the incident that shows a truck driven by Knight.

"Straight Outta Compton" tells the story of the rap group N.W.A.

The defense previously argued Knight was defending himself because Sloan had a gun.

Knight, sporting a graying beard and wearing an orange jail uniform and dark-rimmed glasses, said little during Thursday's proceedings, mostly giving one- or two-word answers to a series of procedural questions from Superior Court Judge Ronald Coen.

As well as Tupac, Suge's label also once featured rap greats such as Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg.

He was sentenced in February 1997 to prison for violating terms of that probation by taking part in a fight at a Las Vegas hotel hours before Shakur was fatally wounded in a drive-by attack as he rode in Knight's auto just east of the Las Vegas Strip.

That scuffle in September 1996 took place hours before Shakur was shot to death in a drive-by attack while riding in a vehicle with Knight after a Mike Tyson boxing match.

Knight, who was incarcerated at the time, was named by police a few years later as a suspect in the Wallace slaying but was never charged.

Knight, 52, had been charged with murder, attempted murder and hit-and-run for using a pickup truck to allegedly run down Carter and Cle "Bone" Sloan in the parking lot of Tam's Burgers in the 1200 block of West Rosecrans Avenue on January 29, 2015.
