On her first day in Ghana, Trump visited a baby clinic and toured Greater Accra Regional Hospital and a new facility where she passed out teddy bears and spent time with the children.

Despite the backlash she has received online, Melania has taken to Twitter with a series of videos and messages to update her followers of her time in Africa. The facility has 22 classrooms with an average class size of approximately 106 students per class.

The US First Lady is now in Malawi on a tour focusing on promotion children's welfare. "We are happy today, we are happy today to see you". Trump first observed two outside lessons conducted in their native language, Chichewa.

As Miliam sat sounding out letters and words, Trump sat with her hands clasped and smiled as she watched the group.

At one point, a teacher led the students in a song in English: "We say goodbye but not forever".

He said Melania Trump's trip will only make a real difference if she is able to persuade President Trump, upon her return, of the value of USA investments in Africa.

According to Malawi State House official says Mrs Trump was looking forward to seeing how the USA can continue working together with Malawi to support a USAid programme that is focused on children's education.

The first lady's visit to Africa is not something new since the other first ladies have also done the same including Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush, and Michelle Obama.

Kenyan first lady Margaret Kenyatta accompanied Trump on the safari, and the pair is expected to take in a traditional performance later Friday.

Past year he appeared to refer to a non-existent country called "Nambia" in a speech to ambassadors from the continent.

The youngest First Lady ever was Frances Folsom Cleveland, who was just 21 when she married President Grover Cleveland in 1886. "It is a handsome thing to see", the president said.
