Doctor Who Barbie doll is inspired by Jodie Whittaker

When Yasmin refers to her as "madam", Whittaker's Doctor ask: "Why are you calling me madam?"

If you haven't seen the premiere episode yet, stop reading now because there's about to be full spoilers for Doctor Who season 11, episode 1. I asked her what the response has been like for her. But perhaps more important is how much fun she is having with it. This really is the closest you can get to being the Doctor without having a TARDIS.

The fact that a Time Lord can periodically regenerate into another body was itself only invented to allow the show to sidestep the failing health of William Hartnell, who played the first Doctor on TV.

She delivered the requisite post-regeneration comedy easily, and expertly portrayed a Doctor who knows everything and knows nothing at the same time. "That's the major thing, not the female bit", she tells me. Still, that's small potatoes, especially when it gives the audience more time to get used to the show's numerous changes.

Jodie Whittaker calls being cast as the first woman to portray Doctor Who "a step in the right direction" when it comes to gender equality in Hollywood, but doesn't feel that she's broken a glass ceiling because there's more work to be done. She's a curious cat, adorably self-effacing at times and admirably courageous in others - in short, the ideal qualities for a Doctor.

That website was among several devoted to the series that labelled the first episode of the 13th Doctor's reign a success. (She did say she doesn't go anywhere that's just initials, but...) Enough of the special guests look dressed historically that we'd have to imagine it won't take all season to find her.

Jodie Whittaker seems to be recovering from regeneration a lot more quickly than Peter Capaldi did, so we probably won't spend more than this past episode on amnesia. It will screen on the ABC on Monday nights at 5.55pm.
