Tway clinches first PGA Tour victory in playoff

Kevin Tway capitalised on overnight Brandt Snedeker's collapse to win his maiden PGA Tour title on Sunday, triumphing in a sudden-death playoff to claim the Safeway Open.

Baddeley, though, would bogey the 12th hole when failing to get up and down from the greenside bunker and although he picked up one final birdie at the last he would eventually finish at 14 under and in a five-way tie for 4th and one shot shy of extra holes.

His father, Bob Tway, was an eight-time victor on the PGA Tour who captured the 1986 PGA Championship by sinking a bunker shot on the last hole to defeat Greg Norman.

"It's done, and I didn't do it", he said.

"I'm kind of at a loss for words".

Snedeker started the day with a three-shot lead and stretched the advantage to five after birdies at the fifth and seventh before slumping with four bogeys on the back nine.

"I'm really proud of the way I stepped up there and hit some quality shots when I needed to", Sneaker said.

Moore also birdied the first two playoff holes to stay alive, but he missed his birdie attempt at No. 10 before Tway sank the victor. "I basically gave it away and it stinks right now, but I'll get over this and maybe it will help me down the road".

"Obviously, we all kind of knew the wind was going to be insane warming up this morning", List said.

Phil Mickelson, tied for second entering the round, had a 74 to drop into a tie for 15th at 8 under.

Kevin and Bob are the 10th father-son duo to record PGA Tour victories, Tour data showed. "Actually, I played pretty good".

"For a while I didn't think we were going to play and then when we played, I didn't really play", the 59-year-old Hall of Famer said.
