What can we expect when Storm Callum hits Edinburgh?

Arriva Trains Wales is warning passengers to check before they travel as services may be disrupted.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind and rain for parts of the country on Friday and a yellow weather warning for rain on Saturday.

A storm that's been dubbed "Callum" will pass to northwest of the United Kingdom on Friday, bringing winds of up to 70mph and a prolonged downpour that will create hazardous conditions across the country.

Areas in the south and south west could see between 50 and 100mm of rain by the end of Friday, with as much as 120 to 160mm falling over high, south-facing ground.

"For Tayside and Fife on Friday there are no warnings in force but the rain is going to continue across the area right into Saturday".

Pembrokeshire County Council is also warning residents to be aware of the potential for danger and disruption. Gusts 50 to 60 miles per hour are likely in some places, with potential for gusts of 70 to 80 miles per hour around exposed coasts and hills.

Clare's Chief Fire Officer, Adrian Kelly says the adverse weather is likely to impact driving conditions tomorrow morning.

Sandbags were distributed earlier today at the Square in Kinvara and at the council depot in Tonroe, Clarinbridge for homes and businesses vulnerable to flooding. Indeed in one or two locations winds may reach as high as 140km/h along the far west and southwest coasts.

He also urged extra care along the Pembrokeshire coastline.

"Later Friday and continuing into Saturday there is the potential for some high totals of rainfall and flooding due to another area of low pressure and series of weather fronts., with the East and South particularly at risk". Expect the unexpected. Watch out for falling/fallen debris on the road and vehicles veering across the road.

The Department of Education has said that schools and colleges should stay closed on Friday if there is a risk to safety due to the arrival of Storm Callum.

"On Friday, the winds will ease somewhat in many areas during the morning, becoming fresh or strong southerly".

It is because the storm is likely to coincide with high tides around the south Wales coast.

A National Emergency Coordination group has now been set up in order to deal with the storm.

Here an Amber Warning is in place all day. Winds of up to 130km are expected in coastal ares along with heavy rain and a risk of flooding.

People should take action now to be prepared.
