It's Going To Go Back And Forth: Donald Trump On Climate Change

Ismael LynchOct 16, 2018

Donald Trump stopped by '60 Minutes, ' and while there, he confessed he believes climate change is not a result of human actions and it will reverse itself naturally, or in his words, 'go back'.

Trump, who has previously called the worsening phenomenon a hoax, added that he no longer believed that was the case but expressed that he did not believe that it is manmade.

Mr Trump had said that climate change was a hoax during his election campaign in 2016, but he has generally avoided taking a clear stance on the issue since taking office.

Stahl, who conducted a great interview in spite of her interview subject, tried one more time to add some facts into the mix by asking him about all of the scientists who say that climate change is worse than ever.

'You would have to show me the scientists because they have a very big political agenda, ' Trump replied.

The co-hosts of "Fox & Friends" predictably were full of praise Monday for President Donald Trump following his wide-ranging ― and eyebrow-raising ― interview with CBS' "60 Minutes", which aired Sunday.

"Look, I think something's happening".

"I don't think it's a hoax". "Man-made or not, I mean there's something there". I don't wanna give trillions and trillions of dollars. I don't want to lose millions and millions of jobs.

Trump called climate change a hoax in November 2012 when he sent a tweet stating, "The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive".

Trump in the past has dismissed claims - backed by an overwhelming global consensus of scientists - that greenhouse gases caused by human activity are responsible for a rapidly warming planet, triggering ever more extreme weather.

Travis Nichols, media director for Greenpeace USA, said Trump's "willful ignorance" over climate change would have "profound consequences for the entire world". As for melting glaciers, Trump said, "you don't know whether or not that would have happened with or without man". In 2017, global mean sea level was 77mm (or 3in) above the 1993 average, according to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report warned further increases would heighten climate-related risks to health, livelihoods, food security, water supply, human security and economic growth.
