Tropical Storm Oscar has formed in the Atlantic Ocean, but does not pose a threat to land. The storm is moving toward the west near 13 miles per hour (20 km/h). A westward to west-southwestward motion with an increase in forward speed is expected today and tonight, followed by a reduction in speed on Sunday.

The storm does not pose threat to Florida, U.S. Additional strengthening is possible as well due to the warm waters and low wind shear directly above the storm.

Oscar became a hurricane Sunday night but land isn't threatened, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The weather service said TS Oscars closest point of approach inside three days was expected to be 487 miles to the east south east of the island about 5am on Tuesday.

The 2018 Atlantic hurricane season officially started June 1, and it will end on November 30, the NHC said.

The system "is gradually becoming better defined and the associated shower and thunderstorm activity is showing signs of organization", the Miami-based Hurricane Center said in an 8 a.m. advisory. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 115 miles from the center.

The storm also hit Georgia, the Carolinas, and Virginia.
