Scheme revealed to make 'false claims' of sexual assault against Robert Mueller

Howard TerryOct 31, 2018

The alleged scheme aimed at Mueller, who has been investigating unproven ties between Donald Trump's presidential campaign and Russian Federation, came to the attention of his office after several journalists and news outlets, including RT, were contacted by a woman claiming that she had been approached by a man offering money if she would fabricate claims against him.

The office of Justice Department special counsel Robert Mueller has notified the Federal Bureau of Investigation about an alleged scheme to discredit Mueller that apparently backfired on Tuesday, a spokesman confirmed.

According to the special counsel's office, they were informed of the "scheme" by journalists who were approached by a woman who said that conservative commentator and lobbyist Jack Burkman offered her $20,000 "to make accusations of sexual misconduct and workplace harassment against Robert Mueller".

Burkman claimed on Tuesday on Twitter that he's holding an event at which Mueller's first supposed "victim" will come forward.

Then on Tuesday, a conservative website posted what it said was an "intelligence report" that included the account of another woman who, in its construction, had a sexual misconduct claim against Mueller.

Burkman gained notoriety when he promoted conspiracy theories regarding the still-unsolved killing in 2016 of Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich.

Law&Crime reported earlier on Tuesday that unknown figures were apparently trying to smear Mueller with the accusations based on a tweet thread by independent investigative journalist Scott Stedman.

The FBI declined to comment on the referral.

"I told him I wasn't interested in whatever he was looking for and I hung up the phone and didn't think about it anymore", the woman's email notes. He said that we could not talk about it on the phone, and he asked me to download an app on my phone called Signal, which he said was more secure.

"I didn't see Robert Mueller very much when I worked at Pillsbury, but when I did see him, he was always very polite to me, and was never inappropriate", she said.

"I downloaded the app and he called me on that app a few minutes later", the woman said.

"We immediately referred the matter to the FBI for investigation", Carr said, calling the claims against Mueller "false". An email was sent out to several reporters in recent weeks, according to numerous reports, where a woman claimed that she was offered money in exchange for making "accusations of sexual misconduct and workplace harassment against Robert Mueller". Other reporters received the same email.
