Colorado Man Pleads Guilty To Strangling Wife, 2 Young Daughters

A Colorado man charged with killing his pregnant wife and two daughters has pleaded guilty under a plea deal that will allow him to avoid the death penalty.

He entered his plea Tuesday during a court hearing, replying "guilty" nine times in response to Judge Marcelo Kopcow's reading of each charge against him in the deaths of Shanann Watts, 34, and their children, Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3.

Police said that after they found the bodies three days later, Chris Watts, 33, then said he strangled his wife in a rage after he saw her on a baby monitor choking the couple's 3-year-old daughter.

Killer dad Chris Watts has pleaded guilty to murdering his entire family in a bid to save himself from the death penalty, RadarOnline can confirm.

Watts' voice was shaking, and he could occasionally be heard sniffing after each time he said "guilty". He gave no details about that talk, only saying, "I just want them back".

"That, to me, was the most important consideration in deciding how to proceed with this case", Mr Rourke said.

Rourke said he had detailed conversations with Shanann Watts' family after Christopher Watts' attorney approached him about a possible deal.

"That's about as firmly as she could have said it to me".

The agreement also required Watts to plead guilty to unlawful termination of Shanann Watts' pregnancy, a felony in Colorado. The bodies were found the week Watts was arrested. But he said: "I know that will never be fully realized, because the tragedy that sits before us today is the loss of four lovely lives".

Prosecutors will ask for a judge to sentence Watts to life in prison, instead of seeking the death penalty.

During the plea hearing on Tuesday, he said the falsehood that Shannan killed the children was corrected.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigations later said Shanann Watts and the girls were murdered inside their home.

"I can only say that I hope there is a sense of closure (for family members of the deceased)", Rourke told reporters.

"What I can tell you most affirmatively today, by what happened in the courtroom, is the spotlight that he tried to shine on Shanann falsely, incorrectly and frankly a flat out lie has been corrected", Rourke said.

Asked if a motive has been determined in the case, Rourke said that investigators believe they have a "partial motive" and Rourke said he would have more to say about that following the sentencing, which is scheduled for November 19.

Watts' defense attorneys came to the prosecution weeks ago with proposals for plea deals, according to Rourke, though he doesn't know why they did.
