Donald Trump Calls for Unity and Bipartisanship During White House Press Conference

President Donald Trump called CNN correspondent Jim Acosta "a rude and awful person" on Wednesday when the reporter continued to press and interrupt the president about his characterization of the migrant caravan is an invasion.

Mr Trump insulted several reporters by name, interrupted their questions, ordered some to sit down and deemed one inquiry "racist" at the conference held a day after the U.S. midterm elections where the president's Republican Party retained control of the Senate but lost its majority in the House of Representatives.

Acosta began by asking Trump about the migrant caravan that is now making its way to the United States-Mexico border from Central America.

CNN reporter Jim Acosta had yet another shockingly uncomfortable exchange with President Trump during a press conference Wednesday.

JIM ACOSTA: Thank you, Mr. President.

"I never anxious about it because I've never used racist remarks", Trump told a Yahoo reporter.

Asked specifically about the future of Attorney General Jeff Sessions and deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, Trump says, "I'd rather answer that at a little bit different time". "Mia Love gave me no love", he said.

"I don't believe it", President Trump said.

Sarah Silverman, host of I Love You, America, also went off.

Acosta then stands up and says something (it's a bit inaudible since he doesn't have the mic) about Trump's labeling of the media as the "enemy of the people" and the pipe bombs sent to CNN. If i did, you people - you would have known about it.

"I tell you what", he said, "CNN should be ashamed of themselves having you working for them". You're a very rude person. "You aren't the best".

Trump's actions did not sit well with Twitter or Hollywood, who had some thoughts about the president's harsh words. "I'm simply asking the questions the public wants to know", she replied. You shouldn't be working for CNN....

On Tuesday, the president telephoned Democratic Nancy Pelosi, a conversation that her office said included congratulations and a nod to her pitch for bipartisanship. "I think people like me", the president said. And the way that you treat other people is awful.

Trump then pointed at NBC reporter Peter Alexander, who leapt to the defence of Acosta, telling him: "In Jim's defense - I've traveled with him and watched him - he's a diligent reporter who busts his butt". As a female aide attempts to take the microphone away, Acosta brushes her aside. "When you report fake news, which CNN does a lot, you're the enemy of the people".
