Dak Prescott admits Cowboys getting better must start with him

Grant SmithNov 09, 2018

There wasn't mush to celebrate for the Dallas Cowboys following their loss 28-14 loss on Monday Night Football to the visiting Tennessee Titans with the team playing another game of inconsistent football.

The Cowboys traded for a new No. 1 receiver in Amari Cooper and fired offensive line coach Paul Alexander during a surprisingly busy open week. They need to bring the heat in this game or else Dak Prescott will have all day to find people down the field and that could spell danger for the Titans. With their inefficient performances so far, no one is sure how they will come out.

After leading the Cowboys to a 13-3 mark in 2016, when he threw 23 touchdown passes and just four interceptions on his way to winning the Rookie of the Year award, Prescott is 12-12 in his past 24 games with 32 touchdown passes and 18 interceptions.

"Listen, Dak is the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys", Jones said on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas on Tuesday.

Following Week 9, here are three takeaways from the 14-point loss to the Titans on Monday Night Football.

"That was the difference, simple as that", Prescott said. The defense as a whole has been even better at home, allowing just ten points per game. "We're up seven points and I go down there and try to force the ball and give it right back to them".

"It's a 14-point swing".

Catch David Moore and Robert Wilonsky as they co-host Intentional Grounding on The Ticket (KTCK-AM 1310 and 96.7 FM) every Wednesday from 7-8 p.m. through the Super Bowl. It's 14-0 if we convert on that. "I just don't have an assessment of my patience right now".

On the Cowboys' first possession of the second half, Prescott was sacked by Jayon Brown and fumbled. They didn't have any more turnovers and never trailed again. "Simple as that", said Prescott, who lost a fumble at his 40-yard line to set up Tennessee's tiebreaking score in the third quarter.

A Cowboys defense that started fast wilted. The changes looked good early, with Cooper scoring the first Dallas touchdown and star running back Ezekiel Elliott having 75 yards from scrimmage in the first quarter. "In each of those cases, you want him to let the play die, live for a third down or punt the ball and go to the next one". Both teams are 3-4. On Wednesday, it was announced he would undergo arthroscopic surgery on his knee and will miss the game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Cowboys coach has been supportive of quarterback Prescott and his work ethic throughout the past two up-and-down seasons. Their futures - short- and long-term - are on the line.
