Dutch businessman, 69, seeks to legally identify as 20 years younger

Howard TerryNov 09, 2018

A 69-year-old man who identifies as a 45-year-old has begun a legal battle to lower his age to help him pull women on Tinder.

Another motivation for changing his age is the fact that the father of seven has another two children on the way, both by surrogates.

He also argues that his wish would be good for the government, as he will renounce all his pension benefits until he reaches retirement age again.

"You can change your name".

The 69-year-old also spoke to The Washington Post, and said he is not concerned that his comparison of an age change to a sex change may be offensive to transgender people.

Mr Ratelband argues he feels discriminated against because of his age, and that it was affecting his employment chances and his success rate on the dating app, Tinder.

"When I'm 69, I am limited", he explains. According to Ratelband, he had a medical exam which said he has the body of a 45-year-old man.

Ratelband seems especially focused on getting his dating life back on track and says that he isn't anxious that women who see him in the flesh may be disappointed.

His reasoning is as multifaceted as it is complete and utter bullshit, with Ratelband stating he doesn't get enough attention on Tinder, he can't buy a house (ummm, what?) and more disgustingly, that trans people can change their gender so why can't a salty boomer arsehole change his age? He says he doesn't want to simply change his age on his profile, because "if you lie, you have to remember everything you say". "And a friend told me you can change your birthday and do a little bit of Photoshop-ing", he said.

"I don't want to lie", he said. If you think you can jump one metre, now I want to jump 20.

The court in the central city of Arnhem is expected to issue a ruling in about four weeks.

Adopting the playbook used by transgender people suing to alter their birth certificates, which often requires submitting to psychiatric evaluation, Ratelband agreed to see professionals to ensure he wasn't a "victim of the Peter Pan syndrome", as he put it. But if the case doesn't shake out the way, he says he'll simply take it to a higher court.

"Who were your parents looking after then?"
