Trump says he's "not happy" about GM cuts, doesn't believe climate report

I like it hot.

The report warns that climate change will result in worsening water quality conditions and the highest temperatures ever recorded, emphasizing the need to reduce carbon emissions drastically.

That is, until I begin to understand the fine print. The report often clashes with the president's past statements and tweets on the legitimacy of climate change science, how much of it is caused by humans, how cyclical it is and what's causing increases in recent wildfires. One of them was released in October by the United Nations, and the other was released by the United States on Friday, during this weekend's long holiday.

While the impact that climate change can have on one sector can be devastating, it can also impact other sectors at the same time. Even if the best-case scenario were to happen and greenhouse gas emissions were to drop to nothing, the world is on track to warm 1.1 degrees Fahrenheit.

"In light of the report's findings, it's critical that federal, state and local governments take aggressive action to protect U.S. residents by both reigning in emissions and helping communities adapt to the climate impacts that are now inevitable", said Brenda Ekwurzel, the director of climate science at the Union of Concerned Scientists and one of the study's authors.

"The report is a huge achievement for American science", Robinson Meyer writes in The Atlantic, and then goes on to ask why such important information was released "when most Americans care more about recovering from Thanksgiving dinner than they do about adapting to the grave conclusions of climate science". Critics say the timing of this release is not a coincidence.

Wildfire seasons - already longer and more destructive than before - could burn up to six times more forest area annually by 2050 in parts of the United States. Among its findings, the study's authors indicate that Midwest agricultural yields are likely to fall to 1980s levels.

Then there was this from the report: "Global average temperature has increased by about 1.8 [degrees] from 1901 to 2016, and observational evidence does not support any credible natural explanations for this amount of warming".

Indeed, the White House report dismissed the idea, pushed by Trump himself among others, that cold weather suggests that global warming might not be occurring.

Its findings stand at odds with President Donald Trump's publicly expressed doubts about climate change, and the administration's pro-fossil fuels policies. "No region of the U.S. has been and will be spared from the effects of a warming climate, and Americans are already suffering the costs".

"All told, the report says, climate change could slash up to a tenth of gross domestic product by 2100, more than double the losses of the Great Recession a decade ago".

The report is being issued at the beginning of what is projected to be a particularly cold winter. If we are serious about providing a world for the next generation, we have to understand that we are heating up the oceans and the snow on the mountains to a place from which we can't turn back.
