Former New England Patriots cornerback was sentenced to 8 years in prison after pleading no contest to attempted murder and willful child endangerment charges, according to TMZ.

Eight years is significantly less than the initial life sentence that Browner was facing, as his no contest plea resulted in charges of robbery, burglary and false imprisonment being dropped.

Brandon Browner's mug shot from the La Verne (Calif.) Police Department. He was later arrested and has been in custody since July. He allegedly broke a locked window and stole a $20,000 Rolex watch before fleeing the scene.

NBC Los Angeles reports that Browner had a previous relationship with the victim and had previously been arrested for domestic violence and was restrained from the victim, according to police. He was a member of the "Legion of Boom", one of the NFL's best secondaries, along with Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas.

Brandon Browner finds himself in even deeper, murkier waters after an attempted murder charge was tacked onto his other charges stemming from his July 8 arrest.

Browner, 34, won Super Bowl XLIX with the Patriots, engaging with receiver Jermaine Kearse to help set a lane for Malcolm Butler to make the game-saving interception at the goal line.

Browner, who also played at Oregon State and had a brief stint with Denver in 2005-06 before heading to the CFL, was named to the Pro Bowl following the 2011 season.
