Relax! You'll still be able to stream Friends in SA

Similarly, Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos told The Hollywood Reporter that the "departure is a rumor".

The beloved Warner Bros. -produced comedy, which follows a group of friends in New York City, has been a fixture on Netflix since January 2015. The show streams exclusively on Netflix in the U.S., but in Australia, it streams through Stan and not Netflix.

The day Friends fans feared is coming: the beloved sitcom is leaving Netflix on January 1. Netflix has now removed that expiration notice from its website.

Enormously popular 1990s and 2000s sitcom "Friends" is to remain available on streaming service Netflix until 2020, after which point it may well end up on WarnerMedia's upcoming platform. To that end, it is wrapping up its lucrative licensing deal with Netflix in order to make its Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and Disney Animation titles (as well as all kinds of original content) only available on one streaming product: Disney's.

The wildly popular sitcom Friends won't be leaving Netflix just yet. But it seemed like it was worth it.

According to Decider, Friends will be gone as of January 1st, 2019 and fans have taken to Twitter with all kinds of sentiments.

However, it may not be all smooth sailing for the Friends Netflix rights in the future.

As THR reminds us, Friends is expected to leave Netflix and join rights-holder WarnerMedia's own streaming service sometime down the road. It's possible that "glitch" was a premature sign of things to come. Many similar messages followed - and for now, at least, these "Friends" fans got their wish.

So use this chance to marathon as many Friends episodes as you can.
