Seven-year-old makes R300m a year reviewing toys on YouTube

Since Ryan's YouTube channel was launched by his parents back in 2015, he has attracted over 17 million subscribers and has enjoyed nearly 26 billion views.

"Ryan's just like every other 7-year-old: He loves Legos, trains, cars - and his 17 million followers", Forbes wrote. His latest mini-mogul move: "a line of collectibles and more, now selling at Walmart", the Forbes said in the announcement.

A video in which Ryan, then five or six-years-old, finds toy eggs on an inflatable water slide has been viewed 1.6 billion times. A video he posted Monday of him driving a new Lightning McQueen Disney auto was approaching 1 million views by Tuesday.

Ryan ToysReview started out slowly until a July 2015 video went viral. That is exactly double what Ryan made in the previous year, according to Forbes, when he was placed eighth in the 2017 list.

The estimate by the Forbes found that Ryan pipped Jake Paul by $500,000 for the 12 months to June. The smaller portion of Ryan's income came from sponsored posts.

Ryan of Ryan ToysReview beat famous YouTubers including Jake and Logan Paul and Swedish gamer PewDiePie to top the list compiled by Forbes.

As a minor, 15 per cent of his earnings are funnelled to what's called a Coogan account.

The Ryan's World merchandise is now being sold at more than 2,500 Walmart stores around the US. So far, his videos have a total of 26 billion views.

"I'm entertaining and I'm amusing", Ryan recently told NBC interview, explaining his appeal. Thanks to sponsorships and paid posts, these social media stars can earn as much as a CEO of an global company.

Markiplier, Vanoss Gaming, Jacksepticeye, PewDiePie and Logan Paul rounded out the top 10. As the list progresses, Daniel Middleton ranked fourth with $18.5 million, Jeffree Star, who's new on the list, made $18 million, Markplier came in sixth with $17.5 million and Evan Fong came seventh with $17 million in annual earnings.
