Fortnite is adding a new Creative mode

Nichole VegaDec 06, 2018

Epic Games essentially just expanded Fortnite's dev team by millions of people. On the Epic Games Store however, Epic will only take a 12 percent cut of sales, leaving developers with a much healthier 88 percent share of the revenue.

If you're wondering why devs might be inclined to snub Google in favor of a market newcomer, the answer is unsurprisingly money. On their announcement page, they also have a bundle of links to YouTubers who have been poking around Fortnite Creative early, giving some tips for the first wave of creators. It seems you'll be able to do a lot with this island, from designing its layout to creating games for you and your friends to play. No tiers, no thresholds, no special conditions.

Redditor /u/No_Reason27 took to /r/LegalAdvice seeking opinions on whether or not he has the right to sue Epic Games for using his idea without explicit permission. It's been a conundrum for many digital storefronts and doesn't appear to be going away.

Epic will launch its Games Store early next year, initially on PC and Mac, but coming to Android and other platforms thoughout the year.

Epic Games to undercut Valve with own PC games store

It is nearly certain that Epic's store won't have games from Ubisoft, Electronic Arts, Blizzard, and other game developers or publishers that operate their own Store. Epic says that the "newsfeed is front-and-centre", and that anyone who buys a certain game subscribes to that title's feed.

Among players of the popular video game, one of the favorite features is the "emote", a quick dance that can be triggered to make the player's character celebrate a particularly thrilling kill or victory. Epic will cover the first 5% of creator revenue-sharing for the first 24 months.

Also interesting is the recent release of Epic's "Support-A-Creator" program.

When You Succeed, We Succeed We've built this store and its economic model so that Epic's interests are aligned with your interests. "But with developers receiving 88 per cent of revenue and Epic receiving 12 per cent, this store will still be a profitable business for us", he explained.
