Government publish Brexit legal advice they didn't want you to see

'If a bad Brexit is forced upon our country and jobs and the economy are not protected, many of our people who have suffered from eight years of austerity will suffer even more, ' he said.

She said those backing a second referendum wanted the public to give a different message.

Meanwhile supporters of the beleaguered PM published a plan to reduce the chances of the Northern Ireland backstop coming into force - in the hope it would help the deal pass in parliament. She looks set to lose that vote.

According to BuzzFeed, Downing Street advisers have urged Theresa May to consider a second referendum or a softer Brexit as options, as her team work out the best response to her deal being rejected.

Supporters of a clean break with the European Union say the backstop, meant to ensure no hard border between British-ruled Northern Ireland and the EU-member Irish Republic, could leave Britain forced to accept European Union regulations indefinitely, or Northern Ireland treated differently from the rest of Britain.

May signalled that she was determined to plough on with a vote and suggested a "parliamentary lock" on the Irish backstop could persuade more MPs to back it.

Cox warns that the backstop arrangement contained within the withdrawal agreement would "endure indefinitely", a phrase which has enraged Brexiteers who say it would represent an incomplete Brexit.

Powerful Tory backbencher Sir Graham Brady hinted he and other MPs may need "reassurance" over ending the Northern Irish backstop before they can back Theresa May's Brexit deal.

"Overwhelmingly, the message I've heard is that people want us to get on with it".

But Sir Graham Brady, chairman of the powerful 1922 committee of Conservative backbenchers, has told her to think again as more than 100 Tory MPs have publicly slammed the deal - with many angry the United Kingdom could be locked into the Northern Ireland backstop indefinitely.

"This risk must be weighed against the political and economic imperative on both sides to reach an agreement that constitutes a politically stable and permanent basis for their future relationship". In the implementation period we still have to negotiate the terms, but there will be concerns that there would be more money to be paid, for example.

Bob has previously said he will support the Prime Minister's deal to secure Brexit.

THERESA MAY must delay the showdown vote on her Brexit plan or risk a catastrophic defeat next week, she has been told by her party.

She told Today that she was staying in Government to make "absolutely sure" Britain does not end up in the backstop, saying: I am a very strong arch Brexiteer, I genuinely believe that we have a bright future ahead of us when we leave the EU.

It then opens up the field to a no-deal chaotic Brexit without any exit arrangements in place, a scenario which also has few takers in the UK Parliament and is expected to further dent May's already tenuous hold on leadership.

Green MP Caroline Lucas questioned Mr Cox's claim earlier this week that the advice should not be published "in the national interest".
